What is an Apostille?
An apostille is a special document with seal applied by the Secretary of State to certify that a document is a true certified copy of an original. Apostilles are available in countries, which signed at the Hague Convention Abolishing the Requirement of Legalization of Foreign Public Documents. This convention, created in 1961, in many cases, replaced the previously used, time consuming process where you had to go to four different authorities to get a document certified.

Why do I need an Apostille?
Each banking institution will have its own way of establishing whether your Wyoming documents are suitable to open a bank account. Your bank may require authenticated articles of incorporation or organization which include an apostille.

Each country party to the Hague Convention designates an authority within its territory that can issue apostilles. In the USA, it is the Secretary of State.

Something to keep in mind
For companies which are incorporated/formed in Wyoming, with owners who do not live in the United States, an apostillized copy of the incorporation/formation documents may be required to open a business bank account in the owners' home country.
